Akshay Kumar is back doing what he does best. The actor teams up with John Abraham in Desi Boyz — the film directed by first-timer Rohit Dhawan — and the two actors play male escorts.

In a candid conversation with Sonil Dedhia, Akshay spoke freely about working with the debutant director, his equation with John, his career so far, and his return to action films.

Was the role of a male escort a challenging one?

There is a misconception about male escorts. Escorts are like a companion and fulfil the costume fantasy of women. During the film you will see us wearing different costumes — of cops, cricketers, fire fighters etc. It is the first time in a Hindi film that someone is playing the role of a male escort. Fashion designer Kunal Rawal has styled for Sonam Kapoor’s Aisha before he worked on Akshay Kumar in Desi Boyz. Akshay also became the reason for Kunal’s debut in the movies! Our source gave us the story from the sets of Desi Boyz.

“It so happened, that Kunal, who is Akshay Kumar’s stylist for the film, was caught in the same frame while shooting for a song sequence. The scene required Akshay Kumar to take off his shirt and throw it on the ground while roller blading towards the camera. As soon as Akshay threw the shirt, Kunal rushed to pick up the shirt thrown on the ground. Since Kunal is a perfectionist, he is absolutely cautious about his clothes. What he did not realize is while picking up the shirt, he was accidentally captured in the frame while the shot was still on. Everyone knew this except for Kunal. Akshay tops Bollywood’s income-tax charts again

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, who starred in a recent Income-Tax Department advertisement to promote compliance, has lived up to his image by becoming the highest tax payer from among the film fraternity for the second straight year.

Mr Kumar paid an advance tax of Rs 9 crore in March, 2010, taking his total advance tax payment in the current financial year to Rs 18 crore. He paid Rs 31 crore in 2008-09, a period that saw him delivering hits after hits.

“It feels good and privileged to be the highest tax payer. It is also a greater sense of responsibility, “Mr Kumar told ET over telephone from the sets of Farah Khan’s Tees Maar Khan, his latest project. From selling cold drinks to innerwear, Akshay Kumar is now using his star power as Bollywood’s highest tax payer to persuade people to pay their taxes honestly and on time in an ad for the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC).
CBEC officials roped in the 42-year-old star because they felt no other Bollywood star could convey the message of tax compliance better than Akshay, who for the last four years has been diligently paying his service tax in advance. Read more…

Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra is all set to debut on the small screen by replacing action star Akshay Kapoor to host this year’s Special IPL Edition of Fear Factor Khatron Ke Khiladi.
