According to overnight TV audience measurement agency Audience Map (Amap), ratings for the actor’s National Bingo Night’s first episode (3.5%) have surpassed those of the first episode of Akshay Kumar’s debut Khatron Ke Khiladi season 1 (1.67%) and Salman Khan’s Dus Ka Dum season 1 (2.54%).

The ratings for the first episode of Junior B’s debut programme have also bettered the ratings of Colors’ Bigg Boss season 3’s first episode (3.24%), which was hosted by Amitabh Bachchan. The figures are for the north, west and east markets for audiences in the 4 years+ age group in cable and satellite homes. These are, however, less than the ratings enjoyed by the first episodes of Shah Rukh Khan-anchored reality shows Kaun banega Crorepati Season 3 (5.76%) and Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain (3.98%), both of which were aired on STAR TV.

National Bingo Night is a 13-episode show to be aired every Saturday. It will have celebrities as well as common people playing two fast-paced rounds of the popular game Bingo. Celebrities such as Farhan Akhtar, Deepika Padukone, Vidya Balan, Arshad Warsi and Kirron Kher will be seen in the subsequent episodes of the show.

Media planners say that while the initial rating of the programme is encouraging, the real challenge will be to maintain the performance. Says Mona Jain, COO, VivaKi Exchange; “The build-up to the programme has been good. The channel has managed to build intrigue around the show, an exercise that has paid off with the initial response. It is yet to be seen if the programme can manage such consistency.” Jain has bought advertising time on the show for her client, Nestle’s Munch brand. Read more…
