Should films such as Bhandarkar's Jail, which deal with adult themes, be cleared for non-adult audiences?

The censor board has asked filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar to mute the sounds of a homosexual scene in his forthcoming film, Jail.

Unhappy with the board’s decision, Bhandarkar says such things are part of life and should be allowed to be reflected in a realistic portrayal of life in an Indian prison.

The Fashion director wanted a ‘U/A’ certificate for Jail; however, for this, he will also have to do away with a sequence showing frontal nudity filmed on lead actor Neil Nitin Mukesh.

Bhandarkar says his earlier film, Chandni Bar, had more explicit scenes, but that film was passed with an ‘A’ certificate. Read more…
